Here’s my top 5 reasons why I like to use Microsoft OneNote. I have been using OneNote for many many years.
It’s not the best-looking note-taking app. I tried many other notetaking apps like Evernote, Notion, Google Keep and Apply Notes.
Since I am using Microsoft 365 products, I tend to go back to MS OneNote for quick note-taking on my mobile phone. And I don’t have to worry about losing my notes because it syncs across all my devices.

Today, I’m going to show you five of my favorite features in OneNote. The first feature is Sticky Notes, which I use the most. Go to Windows and search for “Sticky Notes.” Open the app, which is separate from OneNote. Sticky Notes allows you to capture ideas quickly. You can close them without saving, and when reopened, your notes will still be there. This feature is also available on mobile; just filter to view only Sticky Notes. Since it syncs between devices, it’s a convenient way to jot down ideas anytime. If you want more details on using Sticky Notes in OneNote Mobile, leave a comment, and I’ll create a video for you.
The second feature is Screenshot. You can easily add screenshots to OneNote by selecting Insert > Screen Clipping. For example, take a screenshot of a specific section, and it will automatically appear in OneNote. This simple feature makes it easy to capture and save visual information directly into your notes.
The third feature is Search from Pictures. Once you insert a picture into OneNote, you can search for text within it. To insert a picture, go to Insert > Pictures or drag and drop the image into OneNote. Use the search bar to type keywords, and OneNote will highlight the relevant text in the image. This feature is helpful for finding specific information in screenshots or photos.
The fourth feature is Copy Text from Pictures. You can extract text from images by right-clicking on the image and selecting Copy Text from Pictures. Paste the copied text wherever you need it, and it’s ready for editing. This feature is particularly useful for converting visual content into editable text.
The fifth feature is Insert Excel and Edit. If you work with Excel files, you can embed them in OneNote. Go to Insert > Spreadsheet, and select either an existing spreadsheet or create a new one. Once added, you can edit the Excel file directly within OneNote. This integration makes it easy to manage and work on spreadsheets alongside your notes.
