Do you want to unlock the secret of self-improvement and transform your life one small step at a time? Kaizen is a Japanese philosophy that emphasizes constant and never-ending improvement. Imagine getting better every single day, even if it’s just by 1%. Over time, these small improvements compound into significant growth. If you improve just 1% a day, you will at least improve close to 38x per year. This is the essence of the Kaizen philosophy.
Kaizen follows the PDCA cycle, which stands for Plan, Do, Check, and Adjust. To practice Kaizen, we just need to follow these four steps. First, it is planning—think about your goals. What do you want to achieve economically, personally, or professionally? The Kaizen mentality encourages us to see every day as an opportunity to grow and improve. Once you are clear about your goal, you should start taking action.
Do not wait for the perfect time to start; now is always the best time to begin taking action. In this “Do” phase, apply Kaizen by breaking down large tasks into smaller, manageable steps. For example, if you can’t run for an hour, start with 5 minutes. If a full workout seems daunting, begin with a 10-minute walk. You just have to start—that’s the beauty of Kaizen.
To adopt the Kaizen mentality, change your perception. See everything as either growing or declining. The idea of maintaining a constant state is a myth. In this “Check” phase, if you’re not improving, you’re declining. So, at this stage, we will start checking whether we are improving toward our goals or not. In this “Adjust” phase, we will keep adjusting or improving until we hit the results that we want.
In conclusion, consistency is the key. Show up every day and make progress, no matter how small. Remember, the goal is to be better than you were yesterday. Embrace the Kaizen mentality and commit to continuous improvement. By making small, consistent efforts, you will experience significant growth over time.
